Social Media Transparency Reports

Examining gaps and discrepancies in how platforms report social media harms

Social media platforms publish transparency reports to communicate how they handle harmful content — but how accurate and complete are these reports? This project conducts a mixed-methods analysis of transparency reports across major platforms, surfacing systematic gaps between reported policies and observable outcomes.

Published as a Late-Breaking Work at CHI 2025 (Chang et al., 2025).

Methods: Qualitative content analysis, policy document analysis.
